There comes a point when preparing for every adventure that you just have to call it good enough and go. I remember getting the VW Bus ready to drive up the Alaska Highway it was the same thing. At some point you just have to call it good enough and do it. Today is that day. I received a bit of good advice recently: “If you wait around for things to be perfect you’ll spend the rest of you life waiting and never do what you want to do. Then, you’ll kick yourself in the pants for not doing it.”
Tensions have been high these last couple of weeks. It’s a hell of an undertaking. We’re both stressed out and anxious and a little temperamental. We’ve been warned off this trip by half the people we know. I suppose the other half just know they’re not going to change our minds. Either way, we know parts of this trip are risky business. We accept those risks in the chase for something greater than ourselves. You’re never going to do anything great in life without taking risks. It’s that simple.
In just a few short hours we leave the endless to do list behind. We put rubber to pavement. We pit ourselves against the idea of this trip. We suffer our hardships and we rejoice in our victories. We take our risks and we get what we got coming to us for better or worse. Wish us luck.
