Update:

The full story is up < includes finding Into the Wild’s Magic bus

Update:  21 March 2010 10:30 PM Alaska Time

into the wild bus satellite plotMission Accomplished, but no, really this time.  The Magic Bus from Into the Wild has been located.  My legs are so tired I can barely imagine to stand on them and my feet just plain hurt, but the bus has been found.  If you look very closely in the snapshot to your left you can actually see the Into the Wild bus in the Google Earth image.  I look forward to putting together a writeup on the whole trip in the next couple days so, stay tuned.

Update:  20 March 2010 6:37AM Alaska Time

Good morning.  All the preparations have been made. The satellite system is up and working.  It’s a go.  This is my last communication here until I return.  Be sure to keep up with my progress using the map and wish me luck!

Update:  19 March 2009

I am headed down to Healy, Alaska from Fairbanks tonight to go in search of the “Into the Wild” bus where Chris McCandless died in August of 1992.  If you have yet to see the movie or read the book (Into the Wild), now would be a good time.  It will give you a bit of an idea what it is that we are up against here.  Best case scenario it’s an almost 20 mile hike through the wilderness not to mention the infamous river crossing.  The river should indeed be frozen, but ice conditions are unpredictable.  I finally have the back end setup so that you can follow my progress via SPOT GPS Satellite Messenger.  The way it works is auto tracking creates points every 10 minutes on the map Included in the link below.  Sit back and follow our progress this weekend as we head into the wild.

Compatibility – Firefox is the only tested browser and I know IE is definitely flaking (surprised?).  If you have trouble with the above link you can view progress live from the source.

I guess from the comment above that you just had your birthday. So Grattis på födelsedagen Brandon! So.. Into the wild you say.. Sounds great. Watch out for the big animals and the poisoned plants.. I’m going ice fishing today. Not much into the wild.. But at least a try.. /Amanda

    Geeez Brandon!
I didn’t know about this newest adventure, but I was wondering when you were going to go do this; even though I had no clue you were considering it! Way cool. Who is “we” ? I hope you stay sane and safe; let us know everything as you can!
