Don’t see why not? But’s let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Surely you must be wondering what we’ve been up to all summer. Whitewater rafting in West Virginia of course. Here are some of the highlights. We’ll get into the Big Ditch in a minute:
First and foremost, it’s always good to see my Pops and my Brother make their way down to the New River Gorge for a little father / son boating. The three of us together on the river have been my favorite days of summer for as long as I can remember. That’s the old man at the helm.
One of my favorites – The Lower Gauley at fall flow in a ducky (Inflatable Kayak). Love it.
Taking on Surprise in my canoe.
Alas, I did not make it.
My first time shredding the Upper Gauley courtesy of Dave. We set safety for the annual Animal Race. Posting these two photos made me think. One of the two guys we picked up after they wrecked in the animal race is the same one who picked me up when I wrecked the canoe in the photo before. Funny how things work.
And every once in a while you’ll flip one. It happens. This was during the Wilderness Challenge raft race. One of the best days I’ve had on the Lower New. Great folks.
A little footage of the Lower Gauley from the guest perspective. I never get to see what it looks like from the front of the boat anymore. Many thanks to my awesome Peace Corps chicas for sending this along.
And of course, my lovely lady and me paddling the opening release on the Upper Gauley.
My silly girl.
Now, about that rafting the Grand Canyon thing. We’re headed out here in about a week to road trip across the country to our next grand adventure. Destination: Lees Ferry, Arizona. The put in on the Colorado just above the Canyon. We’ll be 25 days and 24 nights on the water. We put on on November 6th and take off November 30th. During that time we have 225 miles of water, Class 9 rapids and some of the most beautiful scenery on the face of the planet to cover.
It’s been tons of fun planning and getting geared up over the last year for this trip. Now, the moment is upon us and we’ll actually be packing up the bags and putting them in the car over the next few days. Holy crap. We’re heading for the biggest, baddest whitewater in North America
Stay tuned.
